Nature comes alive!

History isn’t the only thing that lives at Perryville. The park is essentially hundreds of acres of wildlife sanctuary. Kentucky native plants and animals find a protected home at Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site. The peace and tranquility of the beautiful scenery at Perryville quietly masks the upheaval and tragedy that occurred upon these now serene fields. In 1862 the battlefield was the scene of Kentucky’s largest and bloodiest Civil War battle. Today the battlefield is one of the greatest preservation successes in the country and due to that preservation native wildlife and plants thrive.

Hiking

Come and hike the nearly 12 miles of walking trails. You will see a variety of native plants and don’t be too surprised to see turkeys, minks, deer and a numerous Kentucky bird species.

Perryville Battlefield is truly a Kentucky treasure. You can experience Kentucky at its best. Walk with history while experiencing Kentucky’s natural beauty.

Native Habitat

Recently Perryville Battlefield entered into a partnership with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife in an effort to return areas within the park to its native appearance. Utilizing grant funding from The Friends of Perryville Battlefield as well as the Kentucky Land Heritage Conservation Fund we are currently turning nearly 100 acres back in time to re-introduce native habitat.

Fishing

Although no hunting is allowed on the park there are public fishing ponds that were recently stocked by a grant from our friends organization. All that is required to fish these ponds is the appropriate Kentucky Fishing Licenses, which can be obtained at several retail outlets or the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife website http://fw.ky.gov/
